WICHITA — The 24-year-old man shot multiple times by a Wichita police officer late Sunday night has been released from a local hospital and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
The man was driving a stolen S-10 pickup when patrol officers attempted to pull him over for defective lights and erratic driving near 15th and Grove shortly before 10:15 p.m.
He raced off, prompting a police chase that lasted nearly five minutes and reached speeds that may have exceeded 60 miles an hour, police officials later said.
He then baled out of the vehicle in the 400 block of South Fountain, which dead-ends against Kellogg, and tried to escape through the residential area, police said.

He turned in a driveway and leveled a gun at the two officers pursuing him, police officials said.
One of the two officers fired several shots at him, striking him three times. He was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.
He faces multiple charges, police officials say. He is a documented gang member who was released from state prison in July.
The shooting incident is being investigated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
