A 5-year-old boy who was found earlier today wandering the streets near his daycare provider has been reunited with his mother, police said.
The incident unfolded shortly after 6 a.m. when a passerby noticed the boy walking unattended in the area near 88th Street and Elm Avenue.
The boy’s 26-year-old mother had dropped him off at his daycare provider about 30 minutes earlier.
A Raytown police officer arrived around the same time and alerted Kansas City police. The child’s daycare provider saw the incident on television and went to the location, said Officer Darin Snapp, police spokesman.

Snapp said the boy’s mother had begun a new job and arranged to drop off the child earlier than usual. The daycare provider told the mother to let herself in and put the boy into bed because everyone would be asleep around that time. The mother did so but did left without alerting anyone. However, the child walked out the house unnoticed, Snapp said.
The boy’s mother was issued a municipal citation for endangering the welfare of a child for failing to alert anyone that she had the left the boy inside the residence.
