One injured in Overland Park fire that is called suspicious

One person suffered minor injuries in a late night apartment fire that Overland Park officials termed suspicious.

When fire crews arrived at the Sundance Apartments in the 6100 block of Foster Street about 11:30 p.m. Friday they encountered several pieces of burning furniture blocking the exit to one of the buildings.

Heavy smoke was reported inside the building that housed four apartment units. All occupants had gotten out before fire crews arrived.

Firefighters from Overland Park, Merriam, Shawnee and Fire District 2 assisted in fighting the fire and searching the building. One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor burns to the hand and smoke inhalation.

Investigators are working to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
