Drivers heading south across the Missouri River into Wyandotte County’s Fairfax District need to find a detour starting today.
After this morning’s rush hour, the Fairfax Bridge, which carries southbound U.S. 69, will close for repairs until Friday.
The Platte Purchase Bridge, which carries northbound U.S. 69, was scheduled to be reduced to one lane from Monday until Friday.
The Fairfax Bridge was built in 1935 and carries more than 7,800 vehicles a day.
During the closure, traffic may detour east on Missouri 9, then south on U.S. 169 to the Broadway Bridge where drivers can pick up Interstate 70 west into Wyandotte County.
Drivers also can detour south on Interstate 635 across the Missouri River, then east on Kansas 5 for access to the Fairfax District.
The Fairfax Bridge also will close again from July 19-22 and from July 26-29.
