Ramp work could delay trips to the airport

If you have an evening or early morning flight, schedule in a few extra minutes to get to the airport for the next few weeks.

The city is repaving a section of Kellogg and plans to close access ramps at Ridge Road at times during the construction.

Construction starts on eastbound Kellogg Monday. Crews will work between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., Kansas Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Hein said. The timing is intended to impact the fewest number of travelers possible, Hein said.

Message boards will direct drivers to the Tyler Road exit and frontage road to get to Mid-Continent Drive.

Construction will shift to westbound Kellogg once the eastbound portion is complete.

The road is concrete with an asphalt overlay, and it's in rough shape, Hein said.

It was last resurfaced six years ago.

Between 50,000 and 90,000 vehicles drive that stretch of road a day.

Hein said the project should extend the life of the road five to 10 years.
