WICHITA _ State Rep. Phil Hermanson was sentenced to a year's probation and fined $500 this afternoon for driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
Hermanson, R-Wichita, was convicted after pleading no contest to DUI. He was involved in a Nov. 6 accident at 47th Street South and Broadway.
Wichita Municipal Judge Pro-Tem Gregory Keith also ordered Hermanson to serve 48 hours in custody of the city's intervention program, offered to first-time offenders as an alternative to jail.
Under the program, offenders check into a motel late Friday and spend two days in a program that demonstrates the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, including victim impact panels. While in the program, participants cannot leave without facing further charges of escape from custody.
