Trucks, scrap aluminum stolen from glass business

WICHITA — This case won't qualify as petty theft.

Someone apparently used bolt cutters — and a semi-trailer truck — to steal two trucks and several large bins filled with scrap aluminum from Hopper's Glass in southeast Wichita over the holiday weekend, police said.

The missing items were detected Monday afternoon at the business at 800 E. Bayley, police said. Employees told police the burglars cut off the security chain with bolt cutters, then must have used a semi-trailer truck to haul off 12 bins full of scrap metal.

They also stole two trucks, police said, which may have been loaded into the semi as well.

The burglars had to have used the company's forklift to load the bins into the truck, they said.

A dollar estimate on the loss had not yet been established, police said.
