Wichita teen killed in turnpike crash

An 18-year-old Wichita man was killed in a rollover accident on the Kansas Turnpike in the Flint Hills this morning, authorities said.

Max McCutcheon was driving south on the turnpike at about 7:30 a.m. when he lost control of his SUV at milemarker 108.2, between Cassoday and Emporia, according to the turnpike authority.

The SUV went into the ditch and overturned three times, ejecting McCutcheon and his front-seat passenger, 23-year-old Blanca Villanueva of Wichita.

McCutcheon was killed in the crash. Villanueva was transported by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she is in critical condition.

A second passenger in the SUV, 21-year-old Haley Randall of Rose Hill, was taken by ambulance to Newman Hospital in Emporia with injuries that are not life-threatening, authorities said.
