Nixon announces details of Missouri job training program

JEFFERSON CITY | Unemployed Missourians will be able to get on-the-job training while still receiving their jobless benefits under a new program.

Gov. Jay Nixon announced details of the Work Ready Missouri program today during a visit to the Kansas City area.

Nixon says participants will be able to work 24 hours a week for up to six weeks at businesses getting intensive training.

Companies won't be charged to take part, and workers will be eligible for a $300 stipend to cover training expenses while still getting their jobless benefits.

Work Ready Missouri is being funded by the state Economic Development and Labor and Industrial Relations departments.
