Would-be ATM thief in Wichita thwarted by too-short chain

WICHITA | Police in Wichita are looking for a man who came up short in his attempt to steal a cash machine from a Walgreens.

Police Lt. Steve Kenney told KFDI-AM an alarm went off at the store shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. Surveillance video shows a man breaking glass and entering the store with a a chain.

The burglar apparently planned to wrap the chain around the ATM and drag it out with his truck.

But the chain was too short, and the man drove off empty-handed before officers arrived. The man appeared to be in his 20s or 30s.
