Walgreens ATM heist foiled by short chain

WICHITA — Remember the saying "a few bricks shy of a load"? A man's attempted burglary at a west-side Walgreens early Sunday morning was foiled because his chain was a few links short.

Surveillance video captured the bungled burglary attempt shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday at the Walgreens at 13534 W. Maple, police said. A man in his late 20s or early 30s broke a window and took a chain with him into the store.

He tried to wrap it around an ATM, intending to pull it through the window with his vehicle.

"But the chain was too short," Lt. Steve Kenney said.

The suspect left without the ATM, but police have the caper captured on video and are looking for him.
