Farmer killed in tractor rollover identified

The farmer killed in a tractor accident Sunday evening has been identified as Joseph Winter of rural Colwich.

Winter, 62, was driving his John Deere front-end loader east on the shoulder of 61st Street North shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the tractor hit a soft spot in the soil, slid and clipped a culvert, said Capt. George Mason of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.

The tractor then rolled over, landing on Winter, he said. The tractor had no cab or rollover bars.

Winter was pronounced dead at the scene.
