Attacker uses piece of wood, gay slurs outside KC drug store

A man yelled gay slurs and attacked another man with a piece of wood Friday night outside a drug store in Kansas City.

The 22-year-old victim suffered a severe cut to his right hand in the attack, which occurred just before 11 p.m. at 45th Street and Troost Avenue.

The victim told police he was outside the drug store when a man got out of a vehicle and began making comments about the victim being gay. The man grabbed a 2x4 piece of wood and swung at the victim, who blocked the blow with his right hand. The man then grabbed the victim’s gold purse and fled.

An ambulance took the victim to a hospital. The victim was uncooperative and didn’t provide additional information, police said.
