Police think $10 led to man being stabbed

A 50-year-old man was critically injured last night after his roommate allegedly stabbed repeatedly him over $10.

The man was in critical condition at a hospital.

The man told police he came home from work about 11:50 p.m. in the 7400 block of Park Avenue and was preparing something to eat when his 48-year-old roommate started yelling at him about $10 he had given to the man’s sister. The roommate is dating the man’s sister, and she had apparently had taken the money and not returned.

The roommate pushed the victim and stabbed him several times, breaking off the handle of the knife.

The victim ran outside, clutching the broken knife, and screamed for help before collapsing in the street. A neighbor called 911.

The victim suffered a three-inch cut on his left wrist, a six-inch cut on his left forearm and three two-inch puncture wounds to his chest. Police arrived and found a knife without a handle on the ground near the victim.

The victim told police his roommate was intoxicated.

Police found the suspect, wearing a shirt and jeans with large blood stains, about an hour later walking in the 1900 block of E. 72nd Street. He had a suffered a cut to the web of his right hand, which required two stitches to close. He remained in jail today.
