Dozens of arrests made at sobriety checkpoint on Independence Avenue

A sobriety checkpoint on Independence Avenue late Friday and early Saturday resulted in dozens of arrests on numerous charges.

Kansas City Police, aided by Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol, stopped 579 vehicles from 11 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday at 3719 Independence Ave.

The stops resulted in 24 DUI arrests, 13 charges of driving while revoked/suspended; 2 hazardous moving violations; 19 other traffic violations; one charge of eluding an officer; 21 Kansas City warrants; four Belton warrants; five felony charges of possession of a controlled substance; one misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession; and two misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
