WICHITA — An employee was shot in the chest late this afternoon during a robbery at a North Broadway business.

Wichita police said the shooting occurred about 5:20 p.m. at Camelus Gold & Leather, 1430 N. Broadway.

Lt. James Espinoza said the victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in serious condition.

The suspect, described as a man in his mid-20s with tattoos along his neck, left the scene in a maroon or red Blazer-type vehicle, Espinoza said.

A female employee and male customer who were in the store were not hurt.

"We don't know what, if anything, was taken" in the robbery, Espinoza said.
