Kansas woman sentenced to 9 years in father's death

MANHATTAN, Kan. | A northeast Kansas woman has been sentenced to nine years and one month in prison for the death of her 74-year-old father.

KMAN-AM reports that Cathy Itoney, of Alma, will be eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of the sentence imposed Wednesday by Riley County District Judge David Stutzman.

Prosecutors said Itoney's failure to care for her father, Thomas Itoney, led to a drastic weight loss in a short period of time. The emaciated man was found dead last October at his home in Manhattan.

The daughter pleaded no contest in May to second-degree unintentional murder. In court Wednesday, Cathy Itoney said she was “truly, truly sorry” for what happened.
