Trial set for October in Lawrence hip-hop artist's death

Four year's after a Lawrence hip-hop artist was found dead in a field, a trial is set for a suspect in his death.

Douglas County District Judge Robert Fairchild on Tuesday scheduled Durrell Jones' first-degree murder trial for Oct. 18 or Oct. 25, depending on the judge's schedule.

The body of 28-year-old Anthony “Clacc” Vital's was found on a country road two miles west of Lawrence in October 2006. He died from multiple gunshot wounds. Jones had been scheduled to go to trial this week but his attorney withdrew from the case.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports that a co-defendant, Major Edwards, of Lawrence, has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. | The Associated Press
