Students evacuated from smoky school bus

WICHITA — More than a dozen students were evacuated from a school bus early this morning after a brake line caught fire in southeast Wichita, a USD 259 official said.

The bus driver pulled over at MacArthur and Hydraulic at 7:37 a.m. after reporting smoke in the bus, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said.

Seventeen students got out of the bus and were transported to school in a second bus, district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said.

An investigation of the afflicted bus revealed the brake line fire, she said.
