Ballot reform contested in Missouri Senate committee

JEFFERSON CITY | With the budget finished, ethics reform on the rocks and an autism insurance mandate still flying below the radar, there's some question as to what big issues will occupy the final two weeks of Missouri's legislative session.

We may have gotten a preview this afternoon in a Senate committee: ballot-box reform .

The Senate elections committee considered a paired bill and constitutional amendment that would enable no-excuse early voting and require a photo-ID at the ballot box.

On its face, the legislation appears to be contain something for everyone: both the early voting that Democrats favor and the ID requirement that Republicans insist is necessary to prevent voter fraud.
