A 20-year-old man was shot to death late this morning in southeast Wichita, authorities said.
Police were called at 11:40 a.m. to check on a man spotted lying on the ground behind an apartment building at Fox Run Apartments, 1157 South Webb, Lt. Walker Andrews said.
The man appears to have been shot four times _ "enough to be lethal," Andrews said.
He also had several cuts to his legs. He was taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m.
Officers found the victim lying in an open grassy area near Building 17, then followed a blood trail a couple hundred feet around to the east side of the building.
Evidence shows the man had been shot inside a ground floor apartment, then jumped through a bedroom window, Andrews said.
"We don't know who was here," he said.
Anyone with knowledge of the shooting should call 911, Andrews said.
Yellow crime scene tape surrounds Building 17 of the complex. Police have been walking along a tall wooden privacy fence on the south side of the building, peering over it into a playground area.
This is the fifth homicide in the city this year, police said.
