'World's Largest Swimming Lesson' coming to Derby

DERBY — Rock River Rapids Aquatic Park in Derby will be the only Sedgwick County site of the World's Largest Swimming Lesson.

Starting promptly at 9 a.m. on Thursday, children ages 4 and up will participate in a free swimming lesson. The children will take part in a lesson that occurs simultaneously across four continents with the hope of breaking a Guinness World Record.

The event was created to demonstrate the importance of teaching children to swim. Other Kansas locations participating in the lesson are in Kansas City and Arkansas City.

Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the water park, 1900 E. James St. in Derby.
