The Chiefs signed former Kansas State defensive lineman Jeffrey Fitzgerald to a free-agent contract and picked up two other players today.
In addition to Fitzgerald, the Chiefs were awarded rookie tight end Leroy Banks off waivers from the Falcons and signed former Akron defensive back Andre Jones to a free-agent deal.
Fitzgerald, 6 feet 4 and 280 pounds, played one season at Kansas State last season after transferring from Virginia. He had seven sacks and one interception return for a touchdown last season for the Wildcats. Fitzgerald will join former K-Staters Ryan Lilja and Jon McGraw in Kansas City.
Banks, 6-3 and 243 pounds, played in 23 games in two seasons at Southern Mississippi, catching 34 passes for 462 yards and four touchdowns. Jones, 5-11 and 180 pounds, started 41 games at Akron, playing defensive back and wide receiver. He intercepted four passes and forced seven fumbles in his career and also caught 80 passes for 1,231 yards and 11 touchdowns.
