Troops' return to Fort Riley from Iraq delayed

The return of a partial combat unit to Fort Riley from northern Iraq that was scheduled for Saturday has been postponed.

Elements of the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division is still in Iraq and isn't expected to be back at Fort Riley until next week, spokeswoman Laura Stroda said today.

Before the delay, about 150 soldiers of the "Dragon" Brigade were set to return this weekend. Approximately 3,500 soldiers in the brigade are expected to return to Fort Riley in phases through July.

The entire brigade is expected to be back by August.

The return of the soldiers is part of a transition plan to bring 50,000 U.S. combat troops back from Iraq by the end of August.
