Two Newton men charged in attempted abduction

NEWTON — Two Newton men were charged today in the attempted abduction Tuesday evening of an 11-year-old girl.

Newton police Lt. Eric Murphy said the girl was outside her home about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday when two men pulled up in an SUV and told her to get in. The girl ran to her house, Murphy said, and her father called 911 with a description of the vehicle.

He said the SUV was stopped a short time later.

Murphy said that Kenneth Rodriguez, 27, and Matthew Regier, 20, were charged with attempted kidnapping, aggravated indecent solicitation of a child and transporting an open container of alcohol. He said Regier also was charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol.
