Mother pleads no contest in baby's death

WICHITA — A Great Bend woman charged with attacking and killing her 3-month-old son in a Wichita hospital room pleaded no contest today to second-degree murder, an official said.

The plea occurred on the same day that jury selection was scheduled to begin in the second-degree murder trial for the woman, Megan Mott, said district attorney's spokeswoman Georgia Cole.

Mott is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20.

Her son, Robby Cox, was being treated in January 2008 for a respiratory virus at Wesley Medical Center when his mother attacked him in his hospital room, authorities said. The infant died of his injuries on Feb. 1, 2008. He suffered skull fractures and bruising, Wichita police said.
