Wichita-area casino bid dropped

TOPEKA | Developers have abandoned the only plans to build a state-owned casino south of Wichita.

The Chisholm Creek partnership sent a letter today to the Kansas Lottery withdrawing its proposal for a $225 million hotel-and-casino complex near Mulvane, about 20 miles south of Wichita.

The letter does not list a reason. But Chisholm Creek sent the letter a day after Gov. Mark Parkinson refused to extend the deadline for a state board to consider Chisholm Creek's plans.

At Chisholm Creek's request, the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board asked Parkinson to extend the board's April 19 deadline by 60 days. Parkinson refused Thursday.
