WICHITA — A 52-year-old man has been arrested for driving the wrong way on I-235 early this morning.
The man was spotted using a ramp at Central to head south in the northbound lanes just before 3:30 a.m., Sedgwick County Emergency Communications director Diane Gage said. Other motorists — among them a former Wichita police officer — alerted 911 as the Land Rover continued south.
The driver exited at K-42, then turned around and drove north in the northbound lanes of I-235. He was then pulled over by law enforcement officers.
He was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and driving under the influence, among other alleged offenses.
A breathalyzer analysis taken at 4:48 a.m. showed the driver had a blood alcohol content of .18, well above the legal limit.
Police records show he has two previous convictions for driving under the influence.
