Police: Death at tracks appears to be accident

WICHITA — Police say it appears that a man died accidentally when a train struck him early today near Lincoln and Washington.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the 51-year-old man possibly fell into the path of a train around 5:30 a.m., police Lt. Randy Reynolds said this afternoon.

A worker noticed the man's body while emptying a trash container and called 911 about 9:30 this morning, police Lt. E.J. Bastian said.

According to identification on the man, he was 51 and had lived in Wichita.

Police were not releasing the man's name. His family has not been notified of his death.

The man died instantly when the train struck his head, Bastian said.

When police found the body, the head was on the track, and the rest of the body was lying perpendicular to the track.
