Argument results in south Wichita shooting

WICHITA — An argument over a woman late Tuesday night in south Wichita culminated with one man shot in the chest and another under arrest, police said.

The shooting was reported shortly before 11 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Richmond, police said.

The two men were among a large group of people at an apartment when they began arguing. The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was upset over the victim's friendship with the 31-year-old woman who is the mother of his child, police said.

He pulled out a gun, shot the victim in the chest and continued to fire as he ran outside toward his vehicle, witnesses told police.

No one else was hit by the gunfire.

The 27-year-old victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital at St. Francis. He is in serious condition late this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The suspect was arrested a short time after the shooting in the 3300 block of East Funston on suspicion of attempted murder and other offenses.
