Charges filed in weekend traffic death

WICHITA _ A Wichita man was charged today with involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol for his role in a Saturday night accident that left one man dead and another seriously injured.

Kevin Lamont Williams Sr., 52, also was charged with aggravated battery and driving with a suspended license. A preliminary hearing was set for April 20.

Wichita police said Williams was one of two men who were racing in the 1100 block of North Cleveland shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday when the pedestrians were struck as they crossed the street.

Police said Robert Ryder, 25, died at the scene and his 39-year-old cousin was critically injured. Police are still looking for the other car involved in the race.
