Derby High released early after series of small explosions

Police are trying to determine who detonated three "pop-bottle bombs" in a Derby High School boys locker room this afternoon.

"Obviously we are going to investigate it as a criminal act, not as a prank," Derby Police Chief Robert Lee said.

Lee said detectives were interviewing several people who were described as "possible suspects" in the case.

School officials reported hearing a series of pops shortly after 2 p.m. and later found remnants of the bombs in the locker room. Damage was minimal and no injuries were reported, Lee said.

Lee said classes were released early so police could search the school for other bombs. None were found.
