A 20-year-old woman was shot in the neck during a drive-by shooting in southeast Kansas City early today.
Just after midnight, Kansas City police responded to reports of gunfire in the 11200 block of Oakland Avenue in the Ruskin Heights district. The injured woman told officers that she had been in bed when she heard a loud pop and felt something strike her in the back of her neck.
An ambulance crew took the woman to Research Medical Center, where she received treatment for injuries considered minor.
Officers counted 11 bullet holes in the front of the residence.
While others also were in the home at the time, there were no other injuries. One resident told police that, shortly before the shooting, he saw a car traveling southbound on Oakland Avenue stop several times in front of the home before moving on.
No suspects were in custody, police said. Some of those inside the home, including the injured woman, had just recently returned to the residence before the shooting.
