John Heim, superintendent of the Emporia school district, has been named the next executive director of the Kansas Association of School Boards.
KASB is a Topeka-based state organization that provides services, training and resources for local school boards. The executive director is chosen by the KASB Board of Directors, which includes Wichita school board president Barbara Fuller.
Heim has served as Emporia superintendent since 1997. He was named the Kansas Association of School Administrators Superintendent of the Year in 2009.
Heim is also an adjunct faculty member at Emporia State University in the Teacher's College.
"Heim is uniquely qualified to assist our members in dealing with the challenge of maintaining the gains that have been made in student achievement across Kansas in the face of increasingly difficult economic circumstances," retiring KASB Executive Director John Koepke said in a press release.
