Shopper injured pursuing purse-snatcher

WICHITA — As a 26-year-old woman put groceries into her car trunk in a Wal-Mart parking lot late Monday, a white Chevrolet Suburban pulled up. A woman jumped out of the SUV.

After the woman grabbed the shopper's purse from a grocery cart, the shopper pursued the purse-snatcher as she got back into the Suburban, police said today.

The snatcher "battered" the shopper and pushed her out of the SUV, causing the shopper to fall and suffer minor injuries, police spokesman Gordon Bassham said.

The incident occurred about 10:20 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 3030 N. Rock.

The shopper called 911 and identified the vehicle used in the crime, and later police arrested two female suspects in a vehicle at 17th and Hillside, Bassham said.

Some of the stolen items were recovered.

The two women who were arrested were taken to the Sedgwick County Jail and were being held on suspicion of aggravated battery and other crimes.
