Two die in Marion Co. crash; ice blamed

Slick streets were blamed for dozens of accidents across south-central Kansas on Saturday night, including a double-fatality accident Marion County.

The Marion County sheriff's office said two occupants of a passenger car were killed about 5:30 p.m. when their car skidded sideways on an ice-covered bridge on U.S. 56 north of Marion. The car was struck by a semi traveling in the opposite direction.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Wichita on Saturday. Forecasters said ice accumulations of up to a quarter-inch were possible by this morning, and 1 to 3 inches of snow was expected on top of that this afternoon and evening.

Roads are expected to remain hazardous through Monday.
