Man dies, family hurt in Missouri wreck

An 83-year-old central Missouri man died Friday night in a traffic accident.

A family of four, including two small children, received minor to moderate injuries in the collision.

John P. Tevis, 83, of Hughesville, Mo., near Sedalia, died in the accident, which occurred at 6:20 p.m. Tevis was driving his car eastbound on Hughesville Road when, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol, he failed to yield to a car traveling south on U.S. 65. That car struck Tevis' vehicle on the driver's side.

A passenger, Kathryn Tevis, 84, suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia.

Four members of a family traveling in the second car also were taken to the Sedalia hospital. Brian and Jane Butt, of Columbia, both received moderate injuries.

Two children -- a girl 2 years old and another girl not yet 1 year old -- received minor injuries.
