McPherson teacher arrested on suspicion of sex with student

MCPHERSON — Sheriff's officers arrested a McPherson High School teacher and coach Thursday night on suspicion of four counts of unlawful sexual relations with a student.

The 25-year-old man is suspected of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old female student, which allegedly occurred "over a period of time last year to present," McPherson County Attorney David Page said Friday.

The teacher posted a $10,000 bond to be released from McPherson County jail, according to Page, who said charges would be filed sometime next week.

"There is still an ongoing investigation," Page said, although he could not comment on when the investigation began.

Page also would not comment on where the alleged crimes occurred or if they happened on school property.

McPherson superintendent Randy Watson said the teacher has been suspended pending action by the district's school board. The board will discuss the personnel matter Monday night, Watson said.
