HUTCHINSON — A 29-year-old Hutchinson man was sentenced to life in prison Friday in Reno County District Court for six counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
Edward A. Spear III, 29, was convicted Feb. 12 on six of the 10 counts accusing him of molesting his girlfriend's daughter, then 8 years old, between August and September 2007 at a Hutchinson home. The girl lived with her mother and Spear at the home on weekends.
Because of prior convictions for residential burglaries or attempted burglaries in Reno and McPherson counties, Spear will not be eligible for parole for 50 years, under Jessica's Law.

"He will be 78 years (old) before he ever sees a parole board," Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder said.
Spear was also sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole for 25 years, on counts two through six, but those sentences will run concurrent to his life sentence on the first count.
When given a chance to speak, Spear said, "I have nothing, your honor."
