Two teens arrested over 'acid bomb'

WICHITA — Police today said they arrested two boys, ages 13 and 15, for exploding an "acid bomb" in an abandoned detached garage in the 1200 block of West First Street.

There were no injuries, and damage was minimal in the explosion, which occurred about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, police spokesman Gordon Bassham said.

Although acid bombs are made from common household chemicals, they are "very dangerous," Bassham said.

The bomb ingredients were contained in a plastic bottle that sent out shrapnel when it exploded, he said.

A neighbor saw two teens run from the garage seconds before a loud blast, Bassham said.

An officer found two boys, and they were put into juvenile custody.

The police bomb squad went to the scene.
