A 25-year-old man was arrested near Wichita State University this morning after he threatened someone with a shotgun and then refused police commands to surrender, authorities said.
Police were called to a house in the 1700 block of North Yale at 2:10 a.m. after a report of one person chasing another with a shotgun, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor reported.
A 21-year-old man told police he was walking home from the Wichita State University campus when he was threatened by the man standing on his front porch with a shotgun.
When officers arrived, the armed man went into his house and refused to surrender. The Special Weapons and Tactics team was called to the scene, police said, and eventually two volleys of tear gas were fired into the house.

The man was taken into custody just before 5:30 a.m., police said.
