A 17-year-old Wichita girl has died from injuries she sustained when her friend pulled out in front of a pickup southwest of the city Wednesday afternoon.
Shannon Bowmaker, a junior at Campus High School, was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m. today at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus, authorities said.
She was a passenger seated on the rear driver's side seat of the Pontiac Grand Am when the driver pulled out in front of a pickup coming south on Ridge Road, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Capt. George Mason said.
The Grand Am was driving east on 47th Street South at the time of the crash.

"They were unable to tell us anything about the accident," Mason said of the two other passengers in the car. "They were involved in texting and using their phones. They don't know if she ran the stop sign or pulled out in front of the pickup."
The 17-year-old girl driving the Grand Am is a student at Campus, district spokeswoman Liz Hames said, and the two 17-year-old boys in the car are former students of the school.
The driver of the pickup, 51-year-old Gary Grassmeyer of Goddard, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released, Mason said.
