Mark Ingram became the first player from Alabama to win the Heisman Trophy. He edged Stanford running back Toby Gerhart in the closest voting in the award’s 75-year history.
Ingram received 227 first-place votes and 1,304 points. Gerhart got 222 first-place votes and 1,276 points.Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was third with 1,145 points and Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh finished with 815 points.
