Kansas inmate recaptured after nearly three months

GARDEN CITY, Kan. | A Garden City man who escaped from a western Kansas jail nearly three months ago is back in custody.

Garden City police say a tip to Crimestoppers helped lead to the capture of Mitchell Ebihara, 27, on Thursday afternoon. Ebihara had been spotted in Garden City earlier this week. Officers found him hiding in a storm shelter outside a home in the city,

Ebihara escaped Oct. 12 from the Kearney County Jail after attacking a corrections officer. He was awaiting trial on a charge of attempted murder in the January 2009 shooting of a man in Lakin.
