Would-be Good Samaritan stabbed

A Wichita man looked out his window in the 4200 block of South Bartlow about 3:30 a.m. Sunday and saw two people sitting in a vehicle.

When he went out and asked if they needed help, he was stabbed in the stomach with an ice pick, said to Sgt. Brad Agnew of the Wichita Police Department.

"A passenger jumped out of the vehicle an approached him and started demanding money," Agnew said. "The victim gave the individual some cash and the suspect stabbed him one time in the abdomen with the pick."

The car drove off, Agnew said, and the man drove himself to Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Joseph campus. He was later transferred to the hospital's St. Francis campus.

Wichita police are investigating the incident.
