Mike Leach is out at Texas Tech.
The university handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear at a courtroom hearing to get Leach's suspension lifted for Saturday's Alamo Bowl. The letter said Leach was fired "with cause" effective immediately.
The action comes after Tech investigated allegations that Leach mistreated an injured player. The player, wide receiver Adam James, alleged Leach twice confined him to small, dark spaces during practice after the player was diagnosed with a concussion. James is the son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James.
After last year's 11-2 season, Leach and the school agreed to a five-year, $12.7 million deal that would have kept him in Lubbock through 2013. Leach becomes the second Big 12 coach to lose his job. Kansas' Mark Mangino was forced to resign after the season.
