Wichita police give details of Sunday's fatal shooting

WICHITA — One man is dead and another in critical condition after a gang-related shooting early Sunday in a North Broadway restaurant parking lot, a police official said today.

A third man, in his early 20s, suffered a compound leg fracture when struck by a vehicle leaving the scene, police Lt. Todd Ojile said.

The shooting, which happened after a fight broke out, was reported at about 12:35 a.m. Sunday. About 100 people were at a party in Da Nang Restaurant, 1556 N. Broadway, Ojile said.

The man who died is Eric Pou, 25, of Wichita, Ojile said.

Although some witnesses have cooperated with investigators, others have not come forward. Anyone with information about the shooting should call police at 316-268-4191 or Crime Stoppers, 316-267-2111, Ojile said.

Police arrested three people in a vehicle leaving the area at a high speed, but they were not arrested for the shooting, Ojile said.

Pou was pronounced dead at 5:10 a.m., according to a police report.

The second shooting victim, a 24-year-old Wichitan, remain in critical condition today.

Ojile gave this account:

Police responded to a report of a disturbance with shots fired. About 10 to 15 minutes after the shooting, a vehicle with the two shooting victims arrived at a hospital.

The incident began with a fist fight in the club. People were pushed outside, and the fight continued in the parking lot, where numerous shots were fired.

The incident involved two groups — but not rival gangs. It is gang-related because a number of gang members were present, Ojile said.

Police don't know what started the fight, he said.
