Man charged in Northeast KC carjacking

A man who allegedly teamed with a juvenile to commit an armed carjacking, fled from police and crashed Saturday in Kansas City's Northeast neighborhood is facing charges.

Manuel Vejar, 21, of Kansas City is charged with first-degree robbery, armed criminal action and resisting a lawful stop.

According to court documents:

The victims were backing out of their driveway in the 3900 block of Windsor Avenue about 3:30 p.m. when the suspects pulled up in a Chevrolet Cavalier, blocked them in and pulled a gun on them. A man took off in the stolen car, and a juvenile left in the Cavalier.

Police spotted the stolen car leaving the scene and tried to pull it over, but the man refused to stop, crashed into a tree at Scarritt and North Kensington avenues, and was arrested.

Officers found the Cavalier, which had been reported stolen from Independence, parked a few blocks away and arrested the juvenile.
