WICHITA _ The K-96 bypass near Rock Road is flowing freely again after being shut down for more than an hour this afternoon as the result of a car fire.
The accident and resulting fire in the eastbound lanes was reported at 12:55 p.m., and concern about blowing smoke and flying debris if the tires explode prompted authorities to shut down the bypass.
Westbound traffic was shut down between Woodlawn and Webb Road, a Sedgwick County dispatch supervisor said.
Eastbound traffic was diverted off the bypass at Rock Road.

The freeway was open again by 3:30 p.m. No injuries were reported in the incident.
