WICHITA — Local law enforcement agencies arrested 14 drivers for driving under the influence during the Thanksgiving week DUI saturation patrol project that ended Sunday.
Wichita police arrested eight people for DUI and Sedgwick County Sheriff's officers arrested six, authorities for each agency said.
During the operation, which ran from Nov. 23 to 29, Wichita police issued a total of 349 citations, including the eight for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Among the other citations were 69 for failure to use seatbelts, 215 for speeding, and 57 for a variety of other traffic violations.
Sheriff's officers issued 173 citations and arrested 20 people for driving with a suspended license.
Deputies wrote 26 citations for safety belt violations, three for child restraint violations, 16 for speeding and 128 for various other violations.
The saturation patrols were held during the department's 2009 Holiday Drive for DUI Victims project, which is aimed at increasing public awareness of the costs and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The holiday project runs through midnight on Jan. 4.
